MY CIVIL SERVICE CAREER
FOR THE DEPT. OF THE AIR FORCE
After Retiring from the US AIR FORCE on 31 July 1974, I went to work for the First Alabama Bank NA. I couldn't go back to work for the Air Force by law for six months. The Bank changed names several times over the years and in 2007, is now "REGIONS BANK"
On 4 February 1975, I was hired back into my old shop, at the same desk, working on the same programs that I worked on as a Sergeant. I was hired as a GS-11 with automatic promotion to GS-12 in one year. I continued working in the shop that wrote and maintained computer programs for the Air Force Civilian Payroll System until I retired in October 1992. I then worked as a contractor employee in the same job until April 15, 2001, whereupon I totally retired.
On 2 October 1992, I gave up my military retirement pay and used those years to retire as a GS-12 from the Civil Service. It totaled 38 years service.
